Infinix Hot 5 Pro vs Tecno Camon CM. Which One Is Better

tecno-camon-cm-colors-7938885 Camon CMAs we all know, the Camon CM is the latest addition to the Camon series but not Tecno’s flagship for the year 2017, it is then imperative that we compare it to some other devices, especially ones from Tecno’s strongest competitor, Infinix. For this, I’m picking the Hot 5.

Hot 5 lite

The Hot 5 is a great device from Infinix, released around July last year, got a lot of attention from Infinix’ customers and in fact, had some people switch to Infinix..

Without much delay, let’s quickly go through the 4 rounds of head-to-head battle. Ladies and Gents, place your bets

Round 1: Display, Storage and Platform

The Camon CM features a 5.7 inches HD IPS LCD with 364 ppi pixels density and 720*1440 pixels resolution,. It displays crisp and clean graphics to its best and it’s pretty impressive.

As a counterattack, the Infinix Hot 5 sports a 5.5 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours, 720*1280 pixels resolution and 286 pixels density. Most popular display specs nowadays.

Although both devices look the same in size, the Camon CM offers a wider screen on a smaller body, giving it the “recent device” look. Also, the display is much better because its pixels resolution and density can never be compared with that of the Infinix Hot 5’s display.

Talk of storage, both phones come with 16gb of internal storage, the Camon CM comes with 2gb of RAM but the Hot 5 pro is loaded with 2gb RAM as well while the lite has just a GB of RAM.

The difference however, is in the sdCard support. The Camon CM is strong enough to support up to 128gb of external storage while the Hot 5 supports 64gb, that’s half of it.

Both phones lack big internal storage. However, their sdCard slots are dedicated, you won’t have to sacrifice any sim slot.

Both the Infinix Hot 5 and the Camon CM sport MediaTek’s chipsets, just different versions.

The Tecno Infinix Hot 5 packs the MT6580 chipset, 64-bit Quad-core CPU with 1.3GHz clock speed and Mali-400 GPU combo. I’ve had firsthand experience with this device, it’s pretty fast…

The Camon CM on the other hand packs a slightly disappointing processor, despite the fact that it’s new.

It sports a 64 bit Quad-Core CPU with 1.25GHz clock speed, MediaTek MT6737 chipset and Mali-T720 GPU. Whatever.

Fortunately for the Infinix Hot 5, the Camon CM doesn’t cone with Android 8, Oreo. Rather, it comes with Android 7, Nougat. This makes both devices equal as per OS, but I don’t know if the Camon CM is getting an upgrade soon.

Round 2: Camera and Media

The Infinix Hot 5 comes with the 5MP front and 8MP rear camera combo. Although it dropped 5MPs from Hot 4’s 13MP rear camera lens, its pictures are brighter, cleaner and more attractive than the Hot 4’s.

The Camon CM? It features the 13MP rear plus 13MP front camera combo, dropping 3 pixels each from its predecessor(CX)’s megapixels. But then, megapixels aren’t so important.

For both devices, camera features include geo-tagging, autofocus, touch focus, flashlight and f/2.0 aperture, face detection, panorama and a few others.

Did I mention the flashlights?? It’s a LED flash on the rear cam for the Hot 5 but Quad LED flash for the CM and one flash for both phones’ selfie cam.

The media? There’s not so much big deal here.

We have photo viewer and editor, video player and recorder, 3.5mm Jack for headphones, loud speaker, music player and FM radio.

Next, please.

Round 3: Battery and Comms

To the battery. Ohhh…. This is my favourite part. I love to say “bad battery makes any smartphone a dullphone”.

The Infinix Hot 5 sports a whopping 4000mAh non removable Li-ion battery.

Although it’s not up to the likes of the L8s and L9s, in fact, it’s not up to the Hot 4’s powerhouse but it did much better than the Camon CM.

The Camon CM disappoints me as it sports a meagre 3000mAh non-removable Lithium Ion. Urrrgh, *spits* disgusting.

For people in the IT industry, that battery is totally out of it, but if you’re an average user, you might still find it impressive.

No matter how less power the Camon CM consumes, the difference will always be obvious. A thousand mAh difference is no joke.

Comms? Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi direct, Hotspot, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP, 2G, 3G and 4G.

MicroUSB 3.1 with reverse charge connector for the Camon CM while the Infinix Hot 5 features microUSB with USB On-The-Go and reverse charge tech..

Round 4: Price in Nigeria

No matter how much one loves a thing, affordability is what determines whether it’s worth considering or not.

After much research, the Infinix Hot 5 is discovered to fall between the #35,000 – #40,000 price range.

I’d say that’s cheap.

The Camon CM? If you’ve seen the Nokia 2 or Xiaomi redmi 5A and their reviews as well, you might have an idea of the price.

It’s between the #40,000 – #50,000 price range

I think I’ll give this showdown to the Infinix Hot 5. The only edge the Camon CM has over the Hot 5 is probably the Camera but that’s a weak blow, the wider screen, higher resolution and thicker pixels density equals better display but it also equals more power consumption.

Considering the fact that the Hot 5 has a better CPU, slimmer body, stronger battery and really, the cameras aren’t close to bad, I can’t but call Infinix Hot 5 the WINNER.

Want to get one of these? I’d recommend the Hot 5. After all, it won. The Camon CM isn’t bad either, if you like it, then go for it. You can also check their counterparts, the spark brothers are close enough and the Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Xiaomi redmi 5A are also not bad. They are all recent mid range devices and stand the chance of upgrade to android 8.

On any one you’re buying, I advice you watch what you buy and mind where you buy… Have fun.
