Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Review, Full Specs, Price and Alternative Phones

Released in the 8th month of the year 2017, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the latest addition to Samsung’s Galaxy Note series but more than a few devices has been released after it.

The Galaxy Note 8 is an upgrade to the Galaxy Note 7 which has been released as far back as August 2016 and is now discontinued. Yeah, there’s a lot of other devices that needs attention.

Sporting a slightly disappointing 3500mAh Li-ion battery along with Android 6.0 marshmallow and 12mp rear + 5mp selfie cam combo, this phone beats Infinix Note 2 hands down.

Other features include 5.7″ Super AMOLED display with capacitive touchscreen, 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution, 518 pixels per inch (ppi), Octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Mongoose & 4×1.6 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and Exynos 8890 chipset. The OS isn’t upgradable though.

Also featuring 4gb RAM and 64gb ROM with up to 256gb sdCard support, the device pulled a lot of Impressions. If not for the battery, this device could have won “Miss Samsung”.

Display, Storage and Platform

The Galaxy Note 8 straps on a 6.3″ Super Amoled display with capacitive touchscreen on a 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm body.

This device is border less on both sides and the upper and lower bezels are really tiny, thereby giving room for an 18.5:9 display ratio.

Featuring 521 ppi pixels density on 1440 x 2960 resolution, the display is crystal and graphics come out as if when alive.

This “flagship” from Samsung comes in multiple variants. Platform variants, storage variants and comms variants.

For the platform variants, it sports Exynos 8895 chipset, Octa-core 4×2.3 GHz & 4×1.7 GHz CPU and Mali-G71 MP20 GPU for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), while it sports Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 with Octa-core (4×2.35 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) CPU and Adreno 540 GPU – USA & China.

For the storage variants, all versions sport 6gb of Random Access Memory but has 64gb, 128gb and 256gb internal memory versions. And for the comms variant, there is a single sim version and dual sim (duos) version which sports hybrid sim slot.

Out of the box, the Galaxy Note 8 ships with Android 7.1 Nougat but could be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Camera and Media

For the camera, It sports an 8mp lens with f/1.7 aperture as the front camera with a soft flash and and coyld make dual video calls. And for the rear camera, a 12MP camera which features f/1.7 aperture with dual pixel PDAF and another 12MP camera with f/2.4 aperture at the back with LED flash.

For the media aspect, we have our Audio player, Video Player, Sound recorder, Video recorder (2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, 720p@240fps, HDR, dual-video rec.), Photo shooter, Photo editor, 3.5mm jack for headphones.

Battery and Comms

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a 3300mAh non-removable Lithium Ion battery, getting below the Note 7’s battery by 200 MillAmp Hour. it’s definitely strong and won’t “die” easily, but a stronger one would have been appreciated.

Long hours of usage is guaranteed – theoretically up to 12 hours talk time and up to 90 hours of music play on 3g.

Comms? Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi direct, Hotspot, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP, LE and AptX, NFC, USB 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, 2G, 3G and 4G.

Galaxy Note 8 Price in Nigeria

As at the time of writing this article, the Galaxy Note 8 between the #280,000 to ₦340,000 on jumia. Price depends on your location and seller. Other versions may be different in price.

Alternative Device

The features found on this device are just so jaws dropping, but still, there are competitors. The Huawei Honor 7x and Blu Studio View XL are great as well. Want more popular companies??
