Design and Display
As seen above, the Infinix Hot 9 is a 6.6 inches device. Slightly bigger than the previous release – Hot 8 – But exactly the same size with the Hot S5. It measures 165.4 x 76.8 x 8.8 mm (height x width x depth). The back and frame is made of plastic while the front is made of glass. There’s not much to the design that we haven’t seen.
At the back, it has the fingerprint sensor at the traditional location with “Infinix” written under it. At the top-left side lies the 4 camera sensors in a vertical alignment with the triple led flash right beside the first one.At the lower part, we have “HOT” printed there, “Designed by INFINIX” under it and “DTS” under that. It’s worth mentioning that the back is patterned to make look more attractive.
Turning the phone around to face the front, we have large 6.6″ full screen display with the selfie camera sensor at the top-left side. Its flash light is at the display’s edge. Flipping the phone to see the right side, we have the volume up, volume down and the power button. Just the way it’s always been. On the left side is the sim + memory tray which can be tapped out to remove or insert sim/SD. Nothing occupies the top part of the device but the base houses the speaker out let, the USB port, the mic and the 3.5mm jack port (left-right).
Moving on to the display, it comes sporting a 6.6″ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen measuring 720 x 1600 pixels in resolution and pixel density of 266 pixels-per-inch. Very similar to that of the S5 but not the same. Both devices will be compared on this website very soon.
Platform and Memory
Every gadget (smart or not) will have a processor. No matter how sophisticated or simple. The Hot 9 is not an exception. The Infinix Hot 9 runs Android 10.0 spiced with XOS 6.0 on MediaTek Helio A25 (12 nm) chipset. We get an Octa-core (4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.5 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and PowerVR GE8320. That’s a bit of a step down from the Hot 8’s Octa-Core (8×1.8 GHz) CPU and a very large step backwards from S5’s Octa-Core (8×2.0 GHz) CPU.
Now to the memory, Infinix likes to “kill” people with this. Storage is exactly why so many get so confused when it comes to picking or identifying Infinix phones. It’s also the same reason why a lot think very highly of their devices. Not minding other things. But storage is not all. Anyway, let’s get on with it.
The Infinix Hot 9 is released in five different variants. Yes, FIVE. So, you have to pay attention during purchase and make sure you’re buying what you want to buy. They are
32GB + 2GB RAM,
32GB + 3GB RAM,
64GB + 3GB RAM,
64GB + 4GB RAM; and
128GB + 4GB RAM.
You’re free to pick anyone capable of satisfying your memory needs and you can also afford. On a norms though, Infinix devices are considered cheap.
There’s another bit of shift in this aspect. This smartphone gets the honour of being Infinix’s first device to sport 4 camera sensors as thye main camera. There is the main sensor which is 13MP, it is the width sensor. The depth sensor is 2MP and the macro sensor is also 2MP. It then has a QVGA sensor for low light areas.
The main camera accompanied by 3 LED lights as the flash. To light up dark areas and to be used in place of torch in case the need ever arises.
The Selfie camera is a single 8MP found at the top-left side of the device – fashioned in the S5’s design and is accompanied by a soft flash located at the top-edge of the smartphone.
Other camera features include HDR and panorama. Videos can also be captured at a max resolution of 1080p at 30 frames-per-second. Moving to fast or capturing fast objects will result in a blur. They could have done better with a higher FPS.
Network, Comms and Battery
Talking of network, the highest we get is 4G LTE. The device doesn’t have 5G. Other network bands are those of 3G and 2G. That’s not bad news. 5G is still new to the market and just a few companies including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and LG have gotten their hands on it yet.
On the communications modules, there’s no special ‘egg’ here. we have WLAN (Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS, FM Radio and USB 2.0 with support for USB-On-The-Go.
The battery is probable the best on this device (at least, in my opinion). The Infinix Hot 9 has a non-removable Li-Po 5,000mAh battery installed. There’s no mention of the fast charge tech but we hope it’s there too. Else, charging this device may be seriously discouraging.
Infinix Hot 9 Price in Nigeria
As at the time of writing this article, Infinix Hot 9 is yet to be released. Hence, we can only guess the price. Based on previous Infinix devices, their prices and the specs found on this one, I’m guessing the price to fall somewhere between #35,000 to #50,000. This price is meant to cover all the variants of the device.
